oh yes, time for some much needed R&R at the beach after a long, dreadful week at work. Be back Monday! :) I’m taking my yoga mat, hoping to have some time to practice tomorrow morning before the crowd arrives.

Better Together - Jack Johnson

This looks pretty empty, but I plan to transform a part of the basement into my sacred space for yoga :)

One of my favorite things to do before falling asleep. It really relaxes my muscles as I ease into a blissful, sound sleep.

Obstacles

Today I took the opportunity to visit Sacred Space Yoga Center, located right off of Randolph Road. Part of my desire to join independent yoga centers instead of sticking to the generic yoga classes my gym offered stemmed from the fact that the gym setting is extremely off - putting, and yoga turned into any other group fitness class. But yoga is so much more than just physical fitness. It’s about expanding yourself mentally, stimulating various parts of your conscience, discover things about yourself through the practice of these poses. So that was my reasoning before I came up with a list of yoga centers in my area.

I almost wasn’t going to show up to class today - traffic was brutal and I was tempted to just go to the gym near my house and take the same Pilates class I take on Tuesdays. Trying new things has never been my forte, although I’m making a conscious effort this year to change that. I walked into the center without any expectations because I’ve never been to a yoga studio. The receptionist was really chill and immediately asked me about my name, and even pronounced my last name correctly! I proceeded to change and walked into the room labeled “Low - Tide”. It was dimly lit, with a large carving of Buddha in the center, surrounded by tiny candles. It was very nurturing - the dim lights exuded a relaxed atmosphere. It was perfect.

My instructor, Scott, was rather young - I expected someone older. He started the class by instructing us to think about an obstacle we are facing in our lives. It didn’t have to be tangible, it could be related to relationships, work, health, etc. Then, he told us to thank that obstacle because only in the face of adversity do humans persevere, grow, and mature as individuals. I really thought about what he said throughout my practice. In the end, he told us that our capability to face external difficulties starts internally. It all seems cliche when I write it out, but in the moment, you really slow things down, and for a brief moment, your thoughts are pristine.

Overall, a very eye - opening experience, I almost want to quit my search for a yoga studio, but there are still a couple more in the area I want to try. Here is a visual of the studio
